Bageriet

24 Rose St, London WC2E 9EA

This Swedish bakery was such a small shop – only one party was allowed inside at a time to order from the counter. The cozy lighting, autumn foliage, and the abundance of small baked goods make for a fairy-tale-like atmosphere.

I ordered the cinnamon bun (kanelbullar), which their menu describes as “sweet yeasted cardamom dough rolled together with a cinnamon filling.” You can smell them baking from a block away, the sweet yet light scent lingering in the air. The exterior had more structure than the similar roll from NYC, but the interior did not lose any moisture. The filling had a thick consistency–kind of like a cross between frosting and jam. It was layered on heavily, but the cinnamon flavor was not overpowering. This bun was especially nice with a small hot coffee.
